7th of November, Tartu, Riia highway. In the middle of the day a woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) is wondering disoriented in front of a house, another window hit.

In these cases there is not much more you can do, than to put the bird in a ventilated box, give it as much peace and quiet as possible & hope for the best. Will it recover? Only time will tell…
Withouth a doubt, this woodcock was born under a lucky star. A little nurturing and pretty soon it gave a clear sign that it’s ready to go back on its way.
If there would be no people around us: who notice, care, want to help or ask for help, we would not be able to share with you, stories with such happy endings.
Warm hugs to the person who noticed a bird in distress and under our guidance, took the bird in, to recover. Huge thanks to Airiin Hango, our Tartu district manager, who later took the bird over and gave her best to help our woodcock to fully recover and fly on it’s way.
Safe flight!
Next time you hear a whirring sound in a glade or a forest trail, you will know that this is the sound of an Eurasian Woodcock (Scolopax rusticola)
